Chit Chat with Mahesh Babu

Mahesh Babu is shooting for his film 'Athadu' in the direction of Trivikram Srinivas at a lake located in ICRISAT campus in Hyderabad on 7th August 2004. A scene on the bridge of the lake is being canned on Mahesh Babu and Sunil. Idlebrain.com has caught up with Prince Mahesh in the shooting break for 10-minute chitchat as his birthday (9th August) and the film Arjun's release (18th August) are fast approaching. Here are the excerpts ….

How different is your birthday going to be this year?
I am looking forward for 18th August so that my Arjun film would be released.

Did you make any mistakes in the past one year?
I think you wanted to know my opinion about the failure of Nani film. Nani is a well made film. It is a big hit in Tamil too. It did not do well in Telugu because my image did not suit the Nani character. I think I miscalculated my image factor when I accepted Nani film.

Did you make any changes in Arjun film because Nani flopped?
We did not do even a single change in Arjun script because of Nani's flop. We went ahead and completed the film Arjun the way we wanted to make it. Arjun is a complete commercial mass film.

Before the release of Nani, you announced that there would be another film in the combination of you, Manjula and Surya. Is it still on?
The film with Manjula would start in the month of December 2004 (director is not Surya). However a film in the direction of Surya would be there at a later point of time.

What are you offering to the Telugu film lovers through your film Arjun?
Arjun is a perfect film for big screen entertainment. Even if you get hold of a pirated CD, you do not feel like watching it, as Arjun would be feast to your senses only when you watch it on big screen.

Arjun is a Rs. 20-crore budget film. Were you nervous while working for this film?
Not at all! The main reason for my confidence is the direction of Gunasekhar. He handled such a thin subject like Okkadu in an extraordinary way. Now that we have a strong subject for Arjun, I am sure Gunasekhar would take it to higher levels.

Trivikram Srinivas is known for his soft scripts and lighter vein dialogues. How is this 'Athadu' - a mass film - going to be?
The title 'Athadu' is a self-explanatory one. It is not a soft title. There is so much of force (mass punch) in it. Trivikram is one technician who is flawless with 100% success rate. He would live up to the expectations movie lovers have for 'Athadu'.

You seem to be getting hits and flops alternatively. How do you feel about change of fluctuations in the results?
I feel sad about it. Do you think I enjoy it when I get flops? (Giggles) I sign films hoping that they would become blockbusters. I will try my best to deliver the next 2-3 films as blockbusters.

You are accepting a lot of films from your home productions (Manjula's film Nani followed by Ramesh's film Arjun and again another film with Manjula as producer in December 2004). Don't you give preference to outside producers?
Do you think we are making films on home banners only for the sake of money? Arjun is such a big budget film and Nani is such an experimental film. I took the risk by making good films on my home banner.

What are the highlights of Arjun?
It is a very high standard cinema technically. The Madhura Meenakshi set is terrific. The night effect song in that set is mind blowing. There would be lot many highlights. And it is a 20-crore film. Hence we want to keep the surprise elements in tact till the film is released.

Do you get any premonitions about the fate of the film while it is under production? What is your gut feeling about the film Arjun?
I am always confident for all the films I acted so far. But with a director like Gunasekhar at the helm of affairs, I am supremely confident about the success of Arjun film. More than my gut feeling, I have tremendous faith in the judgment of my father (Superstar Krishna). My father has seen all nine films I acted so far before the release itself. For all films, he appreciated me that I did well. But only for Okkadu, my father told me privately that the movie was good. After watching Arjun film, he is more excited than that of Okkadu. And he commended that Arjun movie is very good.

Action-packed thriller

Trivikram Srinivas' `Athadu' is a perfect blend of action and romance genres of films.

I SPY Mahesh Babu and Trisha get cosy.

Move over Shankar, here comes Trivikram Srinivas. The opulence in the palatial house set created for Sri Jayabheri Arts, Athadu, at the Jayabheri Estates in Nanakramguda says it all. Trivikram known for his light-hearted scripts and dialogues has started his career as a filmmaker with a light-hearted film Nuvve Nuvve but throws a surprise this time by opting for an action-packed thriller with action scenes (by Peter Heynes) said to be on par with such Hollywood flicks.

"Add to that the stunning visuals (by cinematographer K.V. Guhan), the `realistic' and expansive sets (designed by Thota Tharani), and a mind-blowing performance from Mahesh Babu, you have a winner," smiles D. Kishore, who along with M. Rammohan produces this extravaganza, as he leads us inside the huge set.

After walking through the long corridor, we reached a spacious and well-done-up area where the director is shooting a song sequence. Apart from the lead pair, Mahesh Babu and Trisha, a host of other lead actors including Nasser, Brahmanandam, Sunil, Giribabu, Dharamavarapu, Sudha and Hema and others are on the sets. It looked like a family reunion or festivity and reminds you of such opulent scenes from DDLJ or K3G.

The comparison ends there as master choreographer Raju Sundaram takes over and guides the artistes to the tune set by Manisharma. He had earlier given lilting tunes for Mahesh Babu in Murari and Okkadu.

"We have completed the talkie portions and after this just one song remains to be filmed, a duet on the lead pair in studio sets," informs Kishore. He says the fight sequence shot for 27 days with 160 cameras and

a 500 frame still camera is a major high and thrills the viewers when they watch it on the big screen. "Mahesh Babu's role has all the shades of emotions and it speaks less and does more. Trisha plays a traditional rural girl combining glam as well as performance. The perfect chemistry between Mahesh and Trisha on the sets helped the project shape up well."

`Mahesh Babu joins in for a brief conversation.

"When Trivikram narrated this subject to me, I was bowled over by it. It is on a different plane altogether. We have either action flicks or romantic love stories; rarely we find a perfect blend of these two genres. Trivikram has done it. Just watch it you love it. Trisha is a spontaneous actor. She can give any expression in a jiffy. We are planning to release the film on July 29, a few days ahead of my birthday on August 9 as a gift to my fans and movie buffs."

Trisha who is about to join the revelry of song and dance again moving in toe with Mahesh Babu reciprocates the feelings expressed by the lead actor. "It is a challenge to meet the spontaneity and natural performance of Mahesh Babu. I am enjoying every bit of my role."The lights are on again. The camera whirrs to capture the entire cast present as the actors perform to the song played on the nagara.

There are other actors who are not required for the day's shoot but have important roles to play — Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Shayaji Shinde, Charan Raj, Rahul Dev, Jayaprakash Reddy and Brahmaji. The film is presented by actor-producer Murali Mohan.

Mahesh Babu

Mahesh Babu started out his movie career as a child actor in his father's films before making his debut as an actor. His debut film as a lead actor was Rajakumarudu, cast opposite Preity Zinta. His next few films such as Yuvaraju and Vamsi also helped establish Mahesh's career. But in 2001, his release Murari became a breakthrough for Mahesh and Sonali Bendre played the main roles of the film. However in 2002, Mahesh had a dull phase. Both releases Takkari Donga and Bobby flopped at box office.[3] In 2003, Mahesh finally got the hit he was looking for. Okkadu became one of the biggest hits in Tollywood for the year 2003. Mahesh gave another flop at box office with, Nijam, that same year. However, he won the Nandi Award for Best Actor for his performance in Nijam. In 2004, Mahesh acted in the flop, Naani, which was a remade from Tamil hit New. Arjun, which released in Summer 2004, came to be an average to above average grosser. For one year, Mahesh did not sign up for any film, as he was busy with Athadu from June 2004 to July 2005. It was a big hit both in India and overseas. In April 2006, his next movie, Pokiri became the highest grosser in the Telugu Film Industry. Mahesh's performance was applauded by even Ram Gopal Varma and Amitabh Bachchan.[4] Mahesh's recent film, Sainikudu had a tremendous opening but failed to live up to expectations. But it managed a cool 100 day run. All his hits have been remade in Tamil and Hindi

His upcoming films are Athidhi, Mirchi, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna.

HAPPY BIRTH DAY SUPERSTAR MAHESH BABU

Happy Birthday Mahesh Babu!

Today is Mahesh Babu's birthday. Greatandhra.com wishes him a very Happy Birthday.

Mahesh, who appeared on silver screen in his childhood with 'Sankharavam' has hit as

hero with Rajakumarudu and then continued his celluloid journey with Murari, Takkari

Donga, Bobby, Okkadu, Naani, Arjun Yuvaraju, Vamshi,, Athadu
and Pokiri.

With hits and flops like ups and downs he nurtured well in his career. The film 'Murari' brought
him a good star image and with the historical success of 'Pokiri' he turned super star.

He made an experiment with the film 'Naani' on home banner but that turned a flop as Telugu audiences couldn't digest the essence of the film. The film 'Bobby' was an utter flop in his career. Poor story line and narration marred the film.

Vamshi has also failed in the early days of his career. Inspiring from his father, he tried in the cowboy flick 'Takkari Donga'. But that didn't fair well as cowboy element sounded obsolete for Telugu audiences.

Days were brighter for him ever since he married his lady love, Namratha Sirodkar. Mahesh is certainly an example for 'struggle to successes'. Let us wish that he continues his success forever.

Now, he is busy with the shooting of ATHIDHI and the expectations are very high on the same. With the success of 'Pokiri' this new film is expected to go at very higher price. Trisha is pairing up with him in 'Sainikudu'.

To sum up, Mahesh bagged his father's title, Super Star with 'Pokiri'
